Learner Profile Test & IDP
Without a proper understanding of a child’s learner profile, it is like trying to unlock a door with the wrong key — a lot of effort with little success. I conduct Learning Profile Tests to uncover how your child learns best and to create an Individualised Development Plan (IDP) that turns effort into real progress.
The Learning Profile Test, also called the AFS Test (Attention, Function, Symptom), is a research-based diagnostic assessment conducted by trained learning specialists. It explores three key areas, revealing the hidden strengths and underlying needs behind challenges in reading, writing, or maths. These three areas are:
- Attention – how your child focuses and maintains concentrations.
- Function (Perception) – how their senses support learning.
- Visual perception (seeing, recognising forms, letters, patterns, numbers)
- Auditory perception (hearing and distinguishing sounds, phonemes, words)
- Spatial & kinesthetic perception (awareness of space, movement, body coordination)
- Symptom – the specific challenges that appear in spelling, reading, or number work.
By bringing these insights together, the Learner Profile Test forms the foundation for an Individualised Development Plan (IDP). With its proven effectiveness, the Learning Profile Test has high significance in supporting neurodivergent learners such as children with dyslexia, dyscalculia, or AD(H)D. It helps reduce frustration, builds confidence, and opens the way to more joyful and sustainable learning success.
Individualised Learning Support
I provide academic support through Individualised Learning Plans (ILPs). These plans incorporate attention training, multi-sensory skill development, and targeted symptom support to help learners build strong foundations and lasting confidence. My approach is designed to reduce school-related anxiety, foster self-belief, and ignite a genuine love of learning through real-life examples and interactive, hands-on activities.
Key benefits:
- Personalised strategies tailored to support diverse learning profiles
- Reduced school-related anxiety and improved learner confidence
- Strengthened foundational academic skills in literacy and numeracy
- Enhanced problem-solving and logical thinking abilities
- Improved real-world application of learning concepts
Emotional & Behavioural Coaching
I help children develop emotional regulation, stress management, and positive behaviour habits through a holistic coaching approach. Using evidence-based practices—such as yoga, mindfulness, creative expression, and movement — I support them in building resilience and understanding their emotions. My coaching also addresses stress triggers, academic overload, motivation, and attention challenges, equipping children with practical tools to stay calm and focused. Through a blend of indoor and outdoor activities, I offer a safe, nurturing space where they can explore their feelings, build self-mastery, and grow in confidence.
Key benefits:
- Enhance self-awareness and emotional control
- Reduce anxiety, frustration, and meltdowns
- Build confidence and social skills
- Support children with diverse abilities with tailored strategies
- Equip children with lifelong coping skills for learning and daily life

Parent & Caregiver Support Programme
Our Parent and Caregiver Support Programme (PCSP), developed by Xiaolei Lu, founder of Colourful Journeys Education Centre, is a series of engaging workshops covering essential areas such as self-care, stress reduction, communication, problem-solving, developing key life skills and building strong, respectful relationships. These services are available as group workshops or personalised coaching sessions, offered in both Chinese and English, in person or online.
Whether your child experiences developmental, neurological, physical, or sensory differences — such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, or challenges related to mobility, communication, cognition, or sensory processing — PCSP equips parents and caregivers with evidence-based tools and practical strategies to navigate daily challenges, support their child’s unique development, and nurture their own wellbeing.
Special relevance and benefits by caregiver groups
This programme provides practical, adaptable strategies to meet everyday challenges at home. Explore how it benefits families with diverse caregiving needs:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Create calm, predictable environments that support sensory needs, regulation, and connection through mindfulness and visuals.
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Build focus, manage impulses, and reduce stress with movement, task chunking, visual tools, and strengths-based praise.
- Dyslexia & Dyscalculia: Use multi-sensory methods to support learning and confidence—through rhythm, visuals, tactile tools, and calming strategies.
- Physical Disabilities: Promote independence and resilience with adapted routines, mobility supports, and affirming, choice-based communication.
- Intellectual / Developmental Disabilities: Strengthen life skills and daily routines with simplified communication, positive scaffolding, and consistent affirmation.

Testimonials

“We’ve had the privilege of having Teacher Xiao Lei guide our children through mindfulness, and it has truly been a meaningful journey for our family. What sets her apart is her genuine passion and commitment to helping each child grow. She takes the time to understand the unique personality and needs of every child, and thoughtfully adapts her approach so that each child benefits in their own way.
What we especially appreciate is that she doesn’t just focus on the children—she actively engages with parents too. Xiao Lei equips us with practical tools and strategies, empowering us to support our children beyond the sessions. It’s not just about giving the fish, but teaching us how to fish—so that together, parents and children can build the foundations for important lifelong skills.
Most importantly, the kids really enjoy her sessions. She makes them fun, engaging, and age-appropriate, which keeps them excited to come back every week. We’re very grateful to have found such a dedicated teacher, and we highly recommend her classes to any parent looking to support their child’s emotional and mental well-being in a thoughtful, impactful way..”

“We are deeply grateful for the compassionate guidance provided by Xiaolei. From the very beginning, she approached our concerns with empathy, patience, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by us.
Through a series of 5 insightful sessions, Xiaolei helped us better understand the underlying causes of our child’s behaviour at school and equipped us with practical strategies that truly made a difference. We learnt many strategies, such as creating routines, meditative techniques, for both parents and child, and we learnt to look at our child and his behaviour differently. “Kids do well if they can!” This phrase came up repeatedly during our sessions.
Thanks to Xiaolei’s dedication and professionalism, we’ve seen real progress and feel empowered as parents to support our child more confidently. We couldn’t have asked for a better partner on this journey.”
